12.31.11 - Our Wedding

12.31.12 ...  The day we said "I do!"  Sounds so cliche, but it really was the best day of my life!  Everything about it was absolutely perfect and we enjoyed every second of our big day.

Take a look at some pictures from the day...

the Searcy name

After a few months of being married, it hit me that Searcy is now my name for the rest of my life. I remember having learned about my maiden name, King, in elementary school. Pretty standard to have to do a project on your name and coat of arms. I have a brand new name that I know nothing about. Kind of exciting! So, I decided to look into my new name a bit.

Searcy -- I found two different origins of the Searcy name; French and English.

English -- The Searcy name originates in St. Saire, Normandy and was then brought to England by the Norman Conquest of 1066. The Searcy's settled in Essex. It was said that many different spellings were derived from "Saire" of St. Saire because old and middle English lacked definite spelling rules. The other names that are most common that came from this are Sayres, Sayer and Sayers.

French -- The Searcy name originates in Bourgogne and can be traced back to very early times. The name has many spellings including basically any spelling you can think of when sounding out "Searcy"... Cearcie, Cearsy, Sercie, etc... Here is a cool site with more info on the French Searcy origin. Pretty cool!

Other random facts -

Based on the Civil War Service Records, there were 135 Searcys in the Civil War; 77 Confederate and 58 Union.

Searcy's Occupations according to the 1880 Federal Census Data:
-49% Farmers
-6% Keeping House
-6% Laborer
-4% Farm Laborer
-2% Blacksmith

Looking forward to learning more about the Searcy name!

what's in a name?

Deciding to start a blog has been one of those... I want to do it... I need to do it... ehhh, I'll do it tomorrow kind of things. The idea of picking up and writing every few days and sharing pictures is not what was stopping me. I liked that part... I just kept trying to think of a crafty, cutesy name that would be sticky and memorable.

I decided that this blog is going to continue to change and evolve over time, so why try to slap a label/name on it. As our life changes and as our family grows, this blog will be evolving right along with it. So, I present to you... who ever is reading this... ::drumroll, please:: ... The {Searcy's} Family Blog! Yea, so it's not earth shattering! BUT I think it will evolve perfectly with us over time.

For now, it is my husband - Nick, our Shiba Inu - Mathias and me - Laura. Our happy little family of 3. buuut in the future... we have plans for more - stay tuned for that! We currently live in Dublin, Ohio, a suburb north of Columbus.

I plan to share all things about us, things we are doing, things we are eating, and more! I hope you enjoy! Please share comments, suggestions, encouragement, etc throughout our blog! We would love to hear from you!
